Mission

Mission Picture

Our mission is inspired by the life of the Island’s 7th century saint, Cuthbert and is based upon five key qualities in his life and work.

HOSPITALITY

As Cuthbert received people with kindness and hospitality, so we offer a warm welcome to today's visitors.

TEACHING

As he was a wise teacher, so we would teach and encourage visitors in Christian life and witness.

SOLITUDE

As he sought solitude, so we offer retreats and quiet days and a place where the visitor may find peace.

RECONCILIATION

As he offered a ministry of reconciliation so we provide a ministry of healing bringing wholeness to people in all their relationships.

RENEWAL OF WORSHIP

As Cuthbert’s day was worship centred, so we provided regular and innovative worship, and pray that visitors to Holy Island will return home taking with them that ‘fire of heavenly love’ which Cuthbert himself took with him wherever he went.

St. Cuthbert’s Holy Island Project is an initiative of the United Reformed Church and seeks to cooperate fully with all Christian groups represented on the Island.
